Digital Spy 'Secrets and Spoilers'New Holby City series producer Kate Hall talks 'secrets and spoilers' to Digital Spy - from a partisan viewpoint, I'm delighted by the prospect of "a slow-burning love story with Dominic and Lofty", even more so one that's "gorgeous, measured, not rushed and respectful of the fact that Dominic has been so badly damaged by Isaac."
Good to read also of "top of their game" performances from Lee and others in the "brilliant, brilliant" wedding episode (19 September).

Lofty certainly makes an entrance on Keller, hands-on from the start, but it seems at least one of his new colleagues isn't entirely won over. I'm excited to see him in action, but also very happy to read that we'll learn something of Lofty's back story... at last!
Oh, and look out for a familiar face over on Casualty one of these Saturdays...

Lofty arrives at Holby CityLee's first episode up on the wards of Holby City will air on Tuesday 16 May (BBC One, 8pm). I have no storyline spoilers at this stage other than "Keller welcome a new face" but he's on the cast list for Season 19 Episode 32 : Project Aurous and I think we can expect lots of press and hopefully a TV interview or two before then.

Holby City Spring trailerFirst glimpse of Lofty in his Holby City incarnation as the show's Spring trailer is released shortly after Lee starts filming. There's a certain sense of deja vu when we see him bare-chested, as we did in his first Casualty episoe back in 2014, but I doubt there'll be too many complaints about that!
Latest indications, from Lee himself, are that his first episode will air middle to late May.

Lofty returning... to Holby City
After nearly 18 months break during which Lee toured the UK twice - once leading the cast of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and again with his latest album Some Enchanted Evening, news broke today that Lofty was returning from his travels. Not to the ED though, but upstairs to the wards of Holby City. The move makes good sense for him personally, with filming at Ellstree being much closer to home and I look forward to seeing him on screen.

Though no formal announcement was made, news today of a return to the musical theatre stage for Lee in the UK tour of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in 2016 leads to the inevitable conclusion that he will be leaving Casualty. He has confirmed that he will finish filming in a few weeks (but will of course be on air for several months more) and that the door may be open for a later return.

If You Could Bottle It (aired 18 July 2015)New nurse, Jacob Masters played by Charles Venn, joined the cast this week in usual dramatic fashion (do they ever just hire nurses the regular way?) while Lofty, in his eagerness to party, displays a charming naievety alongside his nursing skills.

The Rita Supremacy (aired 25 April 2015)Lofty is still trying to let Robyn down gently but manages to do the opposite when, in showing the same compassion to a patient whose self-worth needs a boost, he is rewarded with a kiss... witnessed by Robyn! Max then adds a final nail to the coffin, calling a halt not just to any potential relationship but also, it seems, to their friendship.

Under Pressure (aired 11 April 2015)Lofty is left holding the baby again as a young mum gives birth in the ambulance on the way to the ED. Elsewhere his confusion over Robyn's strangely erratic reactions to him grows, but Louise is starting to pick up on the romantic vibes heading the way of the as yet oblivious 'Prince Charming'!

Something Borrowed, Something Blue (aired 4 April 2015)An action-packed episode pulling together many different threads with both new patient storylines and two major ongoing staff storylines (Connie and her MND sufferer, Cal betraying and betrayed) and while there was, for me, far too little of Lofty, I do always enjoy seeing him nursing rather than clowning.

The Road Not Taken (aired 28 March 2015)The second of three standalone episodes being aired in the lead up to the show's 30th Anniversary later this year. The well conceived and well executed story centred on a personal 'groundhog day' for Dr Zoe Hannah - not a huge amount of Lofty in any of the versions of her day, but a great episode nonetheless.

Toxic Relationships (aired 14 March 2015)Connie's new rotas are taking their toll on the junior doctors, with an exhausted Lily at the heart of the continuing story and Rita organising a nurses' 'work to rule' in protest. Cal's relationships with his brother and his lover are on a collision course and, back with the patients, a hungry Lofty is left holding the baby.

Excess Baggage (aired 7 March 2015)Lofty seemed mostly in charge of light relief in an episode where he was not involved in either of the two main patient storylines. Something to Live For (aired 28 February 2015)Fairly minimal involvement from Lofty in an episode which sees three generations of a family start to heal the rift that has divided them for years, the start of a major story arc involving an eminent surgeon, now retired and suffering from MND, and light finally dawning on their ED colleagues as Zoe and Max go public.

Sweet Little Lies (aired 21 February 2015)Lofty trusts his nursing instincts despite Dylan's dismissive response and is eventually proved right as the two treat a social worker whose symptoms don't quite tally with her story. Elswhere, young Ellen Coulton put in a fantastic performance as a Tourette's sufferer in another of a trio of stong patient storylines this week.

Sweetie (aired 14 February 2015)A superbly sinister performance from Marcia Warren as a high-profile criminal at the heart of the week's main storyline made for a totally gripping episode despite the distinct lack of Lofty gracing our screens. Front Line (aired 7 February 2015)With chaos reigning in the ED and an inspection team taking careful note, Lofty had his own problems to deal with... a fear of clowns stemming from a traumatic childhood encounter, giving Lee a great opportinity to flex his acting muscles (and show off his juggling skills!).

The Last Goodbye (aired 24 January 2015)Lofty's character is rounding out nicely as we see more focus on the attributes that make him a good nurse rather than the occasional clumsiness that amuses his colleagues so. This week, his instincts see through to the truth despite a mother's unfounded concerns that her daughter is being abused.

Muddling Through (aired 17 January 2015)Lofty was more involved with the staff than the patients this week, offering moral support to Robyn as she strove to do something more for her patients than simply patch them up and send them on their way... as he did so, we first see that look in her eyes that says she thinks of him as more than just a friend.

Clinging On (aired 10 January 2015)Not a huge amount of Lofty gracing our screens this week, but what there was was pure class. More 'character' is being given to the character each week, and it's great to see Lee getting the chance to extend his acting range beyond 'clumsy but lovable' and 'empathetic and caring' to embrace the cheekier side of that personality.

Solomon's Song (aired 13 December 2014)Lofty, in thoughtful mode, tried to get through to a hypothermic, lonely and loincloth-clad patient who thought he was Jesus, even earning himself a 'you did good' from Lily Chao despite her initial caution to him not to get too involved. They missed a trick with the karaoke though - a mic but no sound for Lofty!

Feeling Good (aired 6 December 2014)Lofty's 'way with the ladies' was found somewhat wanting in tonight's episode, which marked the start of a major romantic story arc for Cal, but the sight of him in a reindeer onesie, complete with fairy-lit antlers and clutching a sack of presents for the children's ward, would win me over every time!

Asylum (aired 22 November 2014)Lee featured in the one for which this episode was named - that of a young woman seeking asylum. It showed Lofty's serious side once more, but there was also the first inkling of things to come between Lofty, or should I say Ben, and Dylan as the latter made his presence felt on another locum shift in the Department.

Deadfall (aired 15 November 2014)The first of a number of 'Casualty noir' standalone episodes revolved around Dr Lily Chao (Crystal Yu), involved two unexplained deaths and took the regular characters into darker realms than they usually tread. Lofty helped Lily understand what was happening in a somewhat unexpected way and was there when it counted as the mystery unravelled.

Entrenched (aired 1 November 2014)Aired this week was the World War I commemorative storyline spoken of by series producer, Erika Hossington, in a recent interview - it allowed for some powerful themes in which Lofty was centrally involved. The Last Call (aired 11 October 2014)With colleagues past and present gathered to say farewell to paramedic Jeff Collier (Matt Bardock), Lofty's treatment of an OCD sufferer offered a welcome counterpoint to the emotionally-charged main storyline - and it was good to have the chance to see how natural and believable Lee's 'nursing skills' have become since he first joined the cast.

Home (aired 20 September 2014)Lofty helps a young lad who arrived in the ED in great pain and considerable distress. Much as I like 'clumsy Lofty' and the scope it gives Lee to demonstrate his fabulous comic timing, it was very satisfying to see him give the character more depth, demonstrating the compassion and nursing skills we have glimpsed relatively briefly in earlier episodes.

Carrot Not Stick (aired 26 April 2014)Ever since clips of 'the puppy episode' had aired in the winter trailer, we'd been eagerly anticipating this one - Dixie and Lofty take a road trip to the seaside to give a young patient the chance to say goodbye to his dying mother. Breaking all the rules, it led neatly to a banishment to Minor Injuries for Lofty, neatly covering his panto filming break!

When Nothing Else Matters (aired 19 April 2014)This week gave us the briefest involvement yet for Lofty, all of it 'off site' at a party back at the house he shares with Robyn and Max ... still, he was wearing a nice check shirt, busted a few moves and played his part in the almost inevitable 'something goes wrong' scene quite beautifully!

The Last Chance Saloon (aired 1 March 2014)The storyline that gave the viewers their first introduction to Ben Chiltern, later discovered to be Nurse Ben Chiltern, also gave the character the nickname by which he is now best known - 'Lofty'. Dropping (literally) on to our Saturday night TV screens, Lee Mead made a great first impression in his first regular TV role.
