Lee Mead chatted to Louisa Hannan on her drivetime show for BBC Radio Solent on Tuesday 21 July, in an interview recorded a few days earlier. They spoke of Casualty, of his route to TV work via the pilot season in LA and of his new 'Some Enchanted Evening' tour which will be calling at Shanklin Theatre, Isle of Wight on Sunday 2 August.
I was fascinated by his description of how he and musical director, Mason Neely, whittled down 50 odd songs to less than 20 for the tour and the album that will follow (available for pre-order now, due for release early in 2016!) - a process influenced as much by feel and connection as by the more technical aspects of key and vocal range... a song can tick all the boxes but if Lee simply doesn't like it, it's not going to make the cut.
Lee last visited Shanklin in 2013 and with this all new show harking back to the golden age of Hollywood musicals, which he previewed in three intimate gigs at London's Pheasantry in late June and opened to great acclaim at Bedworth on 19 July, his return visit is sure to be a hot ticket - tickets here!
