National Television Awards .. 21 January 2015
Lee Mead on the red carpet at the 2015 National TV Awards Following his nomination back in October 2014, Lee was thrilled to be shortlisted in the 'Newcomer' category for the 2015 National Television Awards and a frenzy of voting followed as his fans did their utmost to get him the recognition they firmly believe he deserves.

Up against cast members from three of the big-hitting soaps, Eastenders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks, it was always going to be a tough fight and, in reality, Lee had done brilliantly simply to make the shortlist, shutting out the nominee from Coronation Street in the process!

Morning all .Today's the day!! Really excited. Just want to thank everyone who has voted for me. It'll be a fun night either way x #NTA's

So, Lee donned his tux and headed to the O2, looking positively gorgeous on the red carpet (picture thanks to @SusannaLazarus of Radio Times - right, and video thanks to Whats on TV below)... and we all waited in nervous anticipation. Eventually it was time, and Emma Willis took to the stage to present the award.

The nominees followed, first Maddy Hill (Eastenders), then Cameron Moore (Hollyoaks), then Michael Parr (Emmerdale), dramatic clips for all, and finally (saving the best til last in my totally unbiased opinion) Lee... and a clip of a quietly determined Lofty, standing his ground and refusing to let his patient's partner intimidate him.

Maddy Hill - congratulations to a popular choice - but to Lee I say, you'll ALWAYS be a winner to me, and judging by the response on twitter (where you are at this very moment trending) to a very great many other people too.

This lovely red carpet video comes courtesy of Whats on TV and below is an edit from the ceremony itself along with a few screencaps...

If the video below doesn't play smoothly, pause it and wait a few minutes to allow it to buffer before playing.
