The inaugural White Sapphire Ball, hosted by Gloria Hunniford and John Daly, took place at the Europe Hotel in Belfast on Saturday 3 October 2009, raising £50,000 for the Northern Ireland Children's Hospice. The event's website (no longer active) had this to say:
"West End Singing sensation LEE MEAD will take the stage by storm with his powerful enchanting voice. Winner of the BBC show 'ANY DREAM WILL DO' and crowned 'The People's Joseph', the West End Leading Man will perform a selection of songs - old and new - for guests at this star-studded black tie event."
With thanks to Janine Walker, who blogged about the evening at the time, I understand Lee sang two songs from his second album - title track 'Nothing Else Matters' and his first ever live performance of 'Holding On To Letting Go'. She adds: "He gave a great performance and was the star of the whole night." My thanks also to williamk1_2000 and fluterirl who shared their photos from the evening via Flickr - click on any below to view full Gallery.
