With public celebrations cancelled due to COVID-19, Lee was asked by local Southend MP, Sir David Ames, to join a line up of local music talent in an online concert for the 75th Anniversary of VE Day. It was livestreamed on YouTube at 4pm on the day and should have been a full two hour programme, but technical issues with the sound led to a decision to suspend the livestream and instead publish the full concert to YouTube for people to enjoy at their leisure.
It can now be viewed in full on Sir David's YouTube channel, with the introduction to Lee's performance starting at around 1:18.50.
I did manage to capture Lee's performance as it was originally broadcast - the last to go out on the livestream, happily unaffected by the audio gremlins - and you can see it here. The familiar surroundings were a throwback to his 'live from the drive' A Carppella sessions from earlier in the lockdown and I was thrilled that he chose to sing You'll Never Walk Alone which I'd missed when it featured in the last of those sessions (sadly lost to the ether) and doubly fitting on this occasion, both for its beautiful lyrics and because the musical it comes from, 'Carousel', opened on Broadway in 1945.
Lee's full concert and events schedule (including past appearances) is at CONCERT & LIVE EVENTS
