SERIES 29, EPISODE 26 - THE ROAD NOT TAKEN
This was the second of the three standalone episodes being aired in the build up to the show's 30th anniversary in September (the first - 'Deadfall' - aired in November last year). Another of Casualty's writing alumni, Barbara Machin, has been tempted back to write the 'episode that got away' when she was working regularly on the programme and she chose to shine the spotlight on Dr Zoe Hannah. Lofty's involvement was fairly minimal in Zoe's personal 'Groundhog Day' but the episode was well conceived and well executed. Nice one, Casualty!
Synopsis: Zoe's day begins with a video call from old friend Maggie, inviting her to work for the air ambulance. However, it's soon down to business as two major accidents enter the ER, although things turn weird when the consultant begins to suffer recurrent bad dreams - and see her experiencing the same events more than once in a Groundhog Day-like episode, giving her the chance to make up for her mistakes during a difficult shift.
The full episode will be available to watch on BBC iPlayer until Monday 20 April, and there are also a few screencaps for your enjoyment. Finally, with my ever grateful thanks to the anonymous editor and my apologies to those of the cast who have hit the cutting room floor, here's the 'Meady bits' edit!
