To quote: "On Thursday 17 September Magic Radio in partnership with the Audio Content Fund will bring together over 70 leading figures from across the musicals industry at the venue, united for the first time, to shine a spotlight on theatre at a time when its very existence is under threat."
On the day, the numbers involved had grown to arouond 130 and a total of 11 performances were recorded with a 23-piece orchestra made up of West End musicians and members of the London Musical Theatre Orchestra, along with interviews with performers and industry leaders. Snippets from the Palladium can be found on the Twitter feeds of Magic At The Musicals, the LMTO and some of the performers involved. Read more here.
The show – produced by Magic together with TBI Media - was broadcast on both Magic Radio and their sister station Magic At The Musicals on 23 September, six months to the day after theatre simply stopped. With 'the show must go on' spirit and an immense amount of ingenuity and creativity, it soon started again, in small ways and different forms, but this gathering of musical theatre creative and performing talent - socially distanced and without an audience - in the home of variety, felt like something of a milestone. I can only echo the host station's words in their tweet after the broadcast... "What an evening of joy, hope and emotion". My thanks to ALL involved.
Below you can hear Lee and Jenna Lee James (the Narrator during the later part of his time in Joseph), supported by the Mountview Choir, opening the show with Any Dream Will Do and chatting afterwards to Nicole Raquel Dennis about their year.
