BBC Radio Essex .. 12 May 2022
On a night where the first hour of Tony Fisher's late show for BBC Radio Essex was dedicated to musicals, who better to hear from than local boy turned West End star, Lee Mead! Sharing his early theatre memories, he talked of first show he saw - Button Moon at the Palace Theatre aged 6, and his first musical - Joseph, of course, at the Cliffs Pavilion a couple of years later. And with Grease about to return to the West End, he recalled his first role - playing playing Danny Zuko in a school production of Grease aged 15.

Asked what his favourite role to date had been, he touched on Joseph for its life-changing impact on his career but chose Caractacus Potts in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (my favourite too!).

Coming up to date, he shared his excitement to be taking on the role of Billy Flynn in the UK tour of Chicago - currently in rehearsals, his first show is at the Sunderland Empire on 31 May and he stays with the tour for the rest of its run, finishing in Llandudno at the end of July. Also calling in Plymouth, Cardiff, Blackpool, Sheffield, Norwich and Oxford... tickets for all venues are on sale now!
