Olivier Awards .. 8 April 2018
In addition to the usual performances from nominated shows, at the 2018
Olivier Awards ceremony, which took place at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Sunday 8 April, there were two special performances:
in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the London premiere of "West Side Story", Chita Rivera performed Somewhere with Andy Karl, Adam J. Bernard, and the Arts Educational Schools London Choir; and
of more interest to my readership perhaps, in honour of the 50th anniversary of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat", past Josephs and Narrators Jason Donovan and Linzi Hateley from the original London cast, Lee Mead and Preeya Kalidas from the 2007 London revival and Joe McElderry and Danielle Hope from the UK touring production, joined forces for a unique Oliviers finale, supported by a 50-strong Arts Ed children's choir.
The build-up started the day before, when the Oliviers tweet-cam caught up with Preeya and Lee, and continued through Sunday as pictures emerged from backstage (thank you Lee!) and the red carpet... then finally (below), the performance itself, bringing the ceremony to a close in an explosion of colour and confetti.
