For me, this was the first episode in which Lofty felt like part of the fabric of the ED - while not part of any of the major storylines tonight, he was a constant presence in the department, both at bed and trolley-side, and in the inter-staff exchanges that stitch the main themes together.
Progress! And with his name rather further up the cast list next week, I am hopeful of more to come. There are as usual a few screencaps for you to enjoy!
Radio Times: "This is going to be a birthday to remember!" chirrups a dad to his son as they embark on a recreational assault course. Uh-oh! Of course such a level of hopeless optimism can mean only one thing - that someone is going to end up in hospital.
But life looks up for paramedic Jeff, who is doing a bit of first aid overtime at the event, where he admires the bottom and much more besides of its organiser (played by Michelle Collins).
Back in the emergency department, new boss Connie wants to introduce weekly staff appraisals (the horror! the horror!), while the staff once again bring balm to the troubled personal lives of patients. "Affairs never really solve anything, do they?" muses a nurse to a hapless woman who's just had a roof fall on her head.
With my ever grateful thanks to the anonymous editor and my profuse apologies to those of the cast who have hit the cutting room floor, here's the 'Meady bits' edit!
