Lofty's presence offered a light touch amid more serious patient storylines, but he proved he's no pushover (not even when there's food on offer!) - calling Jacob out on his behaviour, in his own gentle but stubborn way, is something that I've been wanting someone to do since 'super-nurse' first arrived!
It's a shame the creatives took so long to realise that this aspect of Lofty's character is so much more interesting than the endless prat-falls and clumsiness which they seemed so determined to focus on early on. While that remains an amusing and rather endearing undercurrent, it is his quiet determination, his intuition and kindness that I relish more - not least because they allow Lee to flex his acting muscles rather more too.
Synopsis: Dixie becomes worried about her HART colleague when discovers that Jess is taking antidepressants. Iain puts Dixie's suspicion down to jealousy over Jess's relationship and Dixie is forced to ignore her instincts. Cal is left to look after Matilda and panics when he spots a rash on her. He brings her into the ED, and with the baby in crisis Cal and Ethan are faced with the prospect of losing her. But Matilda is saved and Cal realises just how much she means to him.
Meanwhile, Lily discovers her father was proud of her after all - although that doesn't change the fact that everyone in the Emergency Department blames her for Alicia leaving. As guilt starts to eat away at her, Lily tries to get Ethan on her side, implying that she was never cut out to be a doctor.
Finally, there are some screencaps and, with my ever grateful thanks to the anonymous editor and my apologies to those of the cast who have hit the cutting room floor, here's the 'Meady bits' edit!
