S20-E50 : THE RIGHT SORT OF ANIMALAlthough I went into this episode knowing the outcome for Lofty and Dom (David Ames), I had no idea how they would get there and was on the edge of my seat as they navigated the choppy waters. Wise words from Robyn (Amanda Henderson, in a cross-over from Casualty) to Lofty and from all and sundry to Dom, helped them along the way and finally I got my birthday treat of a happy ending.
It was a well-written, well-paced episode, with multiple plot strands interwoven, and much fine work on display from the whole cast. We said farewell to Bernie (Jemma Redgrave) in a bittersweet ending to her romance with Serena (Catherine Russell). We saw both Jason (Jules Robertson) and Greta (Zoe Croft) and Lofty and Dom marry in a double ceremony and we heard Lofty sing... Only You to his new husband! Lee mentioned this in one of the Q&A's on his tour earlier in the year and I now understand his comment that it was Lofty who sings, not him. His voice was as beautiful as ever, but the phrasing, the expression, just wasn't Lee... I wonder how difficult it was for him to dial back his natural performance to that extent.
Synopsis: Love is in the air at Holby, but can Serena and Bernie overcome their issues? Meanwhile, when Jason and Greta's plans are thrown into chaos, Jason enlists Xavier's help. A despondent Dom realises he must fight for his relationship, but will a grand gesture be enough to win Lofty back? When Mo pushes Nicky to reach her full potential, Nicky feels the pressure and questions if she's up to the challenge.
