BBC Radio Essex .. 1 May 2025

It was a very happy-sounding Lee who joined Akylah Rodriguez in the studio on her afternoon show for BBC Radio Essex, clearly very relaxed in what has long been home territory, though recent years have taken him south of the Thames to Kent. He was there to talk about his upcoming solo tour The Best Of Me, which had a West End outing back in March and sets off on 16 May for 23 dates around the UK, including one in Essex at The Institute, Braintree on 12 June.

And talk of that they did, but there was much more besides... and perhaps a clue or three to his particularly upbeat mood as he spoke of his beautiful daughter, Betsy, who turns 15 today - Happy Birthday, Betsy! - dropped a very casual announcement that he's taking his show to New York in the summer (28 August, 54 Below - tickets due on sale very soon) and finally dangles a deliciously tantalising teaser about a big theatre role he's just landed for next year. Big. Very Big. Can't wait to find out more - announcement due in the next month or so!

His current tour The Phantoms also featured large - it's going brilliantly, with two sell-out shows in Chelmsford last Saturday, and ends its Spring run in Clacton on 10 May. There are more dates in the Autumn if you've missed it this time round.

All that, and I haven't even mentioned panto (announcement also pending!) - it's a cracking interview and well worth a listen.
